About Us

Springbank Farm is a family owned sheep farm belonging to Bruce and Shirley Sheat. Shirley has a life long love of horses and ponies. She has been a competitive rider in virtually all disciplines for over thirty years. She holds the New Zealand Equestrian Federation Community Coach Certificate and has also been actively involved with Pony Club Instructing for many years..

The ten horses and ponies currently used for the riding lessons are our  family's semi-retired competition animals. They are all well schooled and matching the right horse or pony to the rider is done with care. We also have horses for more experienced riders. We use mainly Welsh Mountain Ponies, Arabs and Thoroughbreds.

The safety of our rider's is a primary consideration and traditional English methods of training riders are followed. Normally individual lessons are provided as this provides for optimal progress and safety. Shirley has current First Aid qualifications.
